Club history Friday October 30th, 1959 - present Ever since his trips in the late 40s and early 50s to the jazz clubs of New York's 52nd Street, Ronnie Scott had dreamed of opening his own London club. In 1959, the dream came true. Together with Pete King (a fellow tenor saxophonist and personal friend) Ronnie Scott's club opened in Gerrard Street, in London's Soho.

Jazz fans who visit London will find it a friendly city where the music is a lively part of the cultural scene. For example, after purchasing my Saturday newspaper at Starbuck's, I was handed a complimentary Latin jazz CD featuring Quincy Jones and Astrud Gilberto. And the other day, while enjoying the great art collection at the Tate Modern, I listened to a museum recording of British Trad Jazz legend George Melly singing a silly ditty about sculptor Henry Moo.

Friday 19 September 2008 - Sunday 21 September 2008 Isle of Man International Jazz Festival at the Hilton Hotel, Douglas. Presented by the Manx Jazz Club. Featured are leading professional musicians and jazz bands. Two rooms in use each evening, traditional to mainstream jazz. The festival is part of the culture and is a chance to listen to some great artists.

The Jazz Cafe was opened in December 1990 after being converted from the Camden Town Barclays Bank branch. It originally ran along the lines of Ronnie Scott's with seven nights a week live Jazz music. After the original owner's went into receivership the venue was bought by the Mean Fiddler and re-positioned as a Jazz, Soul, Funk, World, Dance and Hip Hop venue.
