Automatic transmissions in motorcycles are not new, with Ridley being one manufacturer currently producing them. In fact, back in the 1970s, Honda and Moto Guzzi both produced motorcycles with automatic transmissions, each with two forward gears. Honda called its system “Hondamatic” and the bikes are still in demand today because of their shiftless nature.

The fuel injection of the XX also carries certain advantages, such as quick startup and rapid warm-up time, but we prefer the carbureted power delivery characteristics of the ZZ-R. The best bike in the world is scrap—or soon will be—unless you learn how to use it. As with other small-displacement machines, certain models may not be allowed on high-speed, limited-access highways. Your instincts to keep the motorcycle on a smooth path while keeping it from falling over usually take care of this without you even noticing it.
